Louis is respected as one of the greatest African jazz guitarists of our time. He has performed in many countries around the world (Brazil, France, Spain, the USA, and multiple African tours, to name a few), and unfailingly impresses audiences from all cultures and walks of life with his intuitive, inspiring and unique use of his instrument, the guitar.
Grammy Award- winning producer, Mark Johnson, is quoted as saying “Louis has a stellar reputation ... one of the most exciting and electrifying performers to come along in years,” and flyglobalmusic.com reviews his CD
World Traveller
, as “A near faultless album and a creative statement of Pan-African vision”.
Of his solo performance at the 2010 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, Fiona Gordon, Contributing Editor of the Cue, says “Known particularly for his mastery of his strings, his use of voice is akin to his skill on guitar.” She further explains “His audience sits breathlessly still, mesmerised, aside from one or two who can’t stop tapping out a rhythm with one or other part of their bodies.”
Since 2007 Louis has had an ongoing relationship, performing with the American-based project, Playing for Change, which comprises musicians from the entire globe, from the African continent to South America, Europe to North America, and sees him perform his special brand of guitar wizardry across all States of North America.
Louis Mhlanga is a legend in the musical fraternity, the artists' artist, and his distinctive style of picking and plucking the guitar, what he calls the African guitar, is now being emulated by a host of young guitarists.
In addition to being globally respected and acknowledged as the master of the African guitar, Louis is best known for his warmth and humility, and his guiding motto of respect, for the world and all the people in it. His persona and musical style embodies the voice of our continent.

Untitled Basement Presents: Armand Mukenge — G
ood Intentions
 Live
Friday 16 October 2026 | Doors 18H00 | Show 20H00 | Quicket R250 | Door R300
For his debut at Untitled Basement, Armand Mukenge brings his debut EP,
good intentions
, to life through an intimate, soulful experience built around music that speaks to anyone simply willing to listen.
Armand is a Christian Neo-Soul and R&B artist whose work is defined by soulful vocal expression, introspective lyricism, and a commitment to authentic storytelling. Blending the warmth of soul, the emotional depth of R&B, and the spiritual foundation of faith, he is part of a new generation of artists reshaping contemporary gospel music. Armand makes music that is deeply rooted in faith but never confined by it. Authentic and warm, his songs explore the questions, tensions, joys, and uncertainties accompanying a life of faith, because faith and honesty belong in the same conversation.
Backed by a four-piece band, his live show creates a space where groove, soul, musicianship, and storytelling meet. Expect vulnerability, infectious charisma, and the kind of musical chemistry that makes an intimate room feel like something much bigger, all while anticipating a new body of work on the horizon.
His first show of the tour sold out earlier this year, offering an early glimpse of what happens when audiences encounter an artist whose music feels honest enough to stay with them. Now, in the second show of the series, Armand continues to put himself out there: taking risks, finding his audience, and cementing his voice as a musician worth attention.
This is your invitation to discover Armand Mukenge before the rest of the world catches up.

First Drafts
is a curated storytelling experience where artists, writers, poets, musicians, members of the public and thinkers share work in its most honest form. It is a space that celebrates vulnerability, creativity, and conversation by giving people permission to present ideas that are still becoming. Unlike traditional open mics, every edition is intentionally curated to create a cohesive experience that leaves audiences inspired, challenged, and connected.
The name
First Drafts
 comes from the belief that:
Every masterpiece started as a first draft.
Every person is a work in progress.
Stories do not have to be finished to be worth telling.
It embraces imperfection as the birthplace of excellence.
The Experience
First Drafts isn't simply a sequence of performances. It is designed like a live narrative.
Each event includes:
Curated poetry
Storytelling
Spoken word
Live music
Conversations with featured guests
Audience participation where appropriate
An intentional atmosphere
Rather than asking "Who's performing?", the audience asks,
"What's the story tonight?"
Even if you are nervous to share, come, we are here for it!
